Ever wonder why you are seeing so many new holistic therapies suddenly popping up everywhere?
It could be because with the rising cost of health care, loss of employment and medical benefits many people are searching for ways to stay healthy without investing a lot of money.
Natural remedies are nothing new, they have just been revived!
Reflexology for example has been around for centuries according to Dwight Byers in the Book, "Better Health with Foot Reflexology The Original Ingham Method®", the origin of Reflexology evidently reach back to ancient Egypt as evidenced by inscriptions found in the physician’s tomb at Saqqara in Egypt. The translation of the hieroglyphics are as follows: "Don’t hurt me." The practitioner’s reply:- " I shall act so you praise me. "
We cannot determine the exact relationship between the ancient art as practiced by the early Egyptians and Reflexology as we know it today. Different forms of working the feet to effect health have been used all over the ancient world. According to Dr. Riley that this form of healing spread from Egypt via the Roman Empire.
So what exactly is Reflexology?
It is a science that deals with the principle that every organ, glands & systems have corresponding reflex points in the feet & hands, and by working with or stimulating these points the body can find ways to balance
or maintain it's own health.
Quoting Dwight Byers:
Reflexology is a serious advance in the health field and should not be confused or compared to massage.
A complete reflexology treatment takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour. Treating both feet and often times the hands as well.
